Our beautiful Baby Lily
On 26 June 2025, our beautiful daughter, Lily Louisa Joan Yeates, came into the world. From the moment we met her, she was loved beyond words. She was tiny, beautiful and completely perfect to us. We had so many hopes and dreams for our little girl and imagined all the things we would experience together as she grew up. Sadly, we were only given a very short time with her. On 2 July 2025, just one week after she was born, we lost our beautiful Baby Lily.
The condition that took our daughter
Lily was born with an extremely rare condition called Alveolar Capillary Dysplasia with Misalignment of Pulmonary Veins (ACDMPV).
It affects the tiny blood vessels in the lungs that are responsible for allowing oxygen to pass into the blood. In Lily's case, her lungs were unable to work as they needed to, despite everything being done to help her.
ACDMPV is incredibly rare, and there is still so much that researchers don't know about the condition. For families like ours, that lack of knowledge can make an already devastating situation even harder.
Turning Lily's memory into something positive
Land & Roots was created as a way of carrying a little piece of our Baby Lily forward with us. Every order includes wildflower seeds — not simply because we love nature, but because we want those tiny seeds to become something living and beautiful. A flower. Then another. A garden. And perhaps one day, a butterfly landing among them. Every time that happens, we'll think of Lily.
But we also hope Land & Roots can eventually help other families. As the brand grows, we want to donate a portion of our profits towards research into Alveolar Capillary Dysplasia, helping support the researchers and organisations working to understand this devastating condition. We know we can't change what happened to Lily. But if her story, and the success of Land & Roots, can help contribute even a little towards better understanding ACDMPV and ultimately help another baby in the future, that would mean everything to us.
Our beautiful butterfly
We often think of Lily as our beautiful butterfly. A butterfly is here for such a short time, yet it can leave something beautiful behind. That's what we hope to do with Lily's memory. We know that nothing can bring our Baby Lily back. But we can make sure that she is remembered. We can talk about her. We can say her name. We can tell people that she was here, that she was loved, and that she will always be our daughter. And through Land & Roots, we hope her memory can become part of something positive. Something that grows. Something that gives back to nature. Something that could one day help other families.
